iPod Heaven

Well, after about a year and a half, I finally got my iPod charged and own earphones that fit it - AT THE SAME TIME!!! Yay me!!! I'm so excited I can grocery shop to tunes again and not have to hear anyone speak to me!! :-) (Ya, I'm like that lol)

So anyway, I'm enjoying some of the fun songs on there I haven't heard in forever, and thought you might like some fun, too! Of course these are just a few of the funner songs I found flipping through the 1600 songs quickly hahahah!!

As for the sicknesses around here, well, I'd hoped we were on the upswing - everyone had seemed well yesterday.... until bedtime when Ally threw up on the couch which was far from pleasant, but we got her all cleaned up and she was fine. Then Syd woke up with a headache today, and I was giving her a "make over" and realized she felt really hot... yeah - 102 temp all day. It got as high as 102.5 around 5-6pm but I finally convinced her to take some tylenol and its gone down now and she feels much better. So basically, I'm just wondering who will wake up sick tomorrow. This is day 10 now... Surely its leaving sooooooooooooooon!!!!!!

I can't help but share music that moves me because listening to these songs (and the others listed on the sidebar) have helped me through some rough spots and kept me going. Also - there is another reason - the music a person listens to says things about them. For instance, for anyone who knows the Wizard irl knows that you can't ever really KNOW the Wizard lol - don't even try, its impossible, can't be done haha... He really is the epitome of "the man behind the curtain"... (And I'm probably just like him, one big "riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma" as Winston Churchill would say) BUT - I can probably say the majority of the times we've really "RELATED" have been through music.

For instance, you may or may not know that the Wizard is a former Assembly of God pastor (yeah, yeah, I'm a PK and that explains it all...) So my earliest childhood memories involve Christian music, especially songs like this, this, this ("filet-o-mana!"), and even this... Then in college when my parents were dropping me off at college this made us all cry as we were saying our goodbyes, and this song I listened too over and over and over trying to understand what I wanted to do about college... lol

BUT - my dad and I have had many discussions about what he would label "secular" music - The Rolling Stones, Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, The Beach Boys, even The Doors... (My dad knows good music even though he'd never admit it hehe)... Anyway, I say all that partially as a walk down memory lane for him, but also as an example of how music can tell you about a person and make for a common bond when its hard to find common ground sometimes. :-) I love ya, Wizard, even though we don't see eye to eye on most things anymore. Thanks for letting me be me - that means more than you'll ever know.

Also, that's why I post about music on here so much, cuz its little snapshots into who I was, who I am, and who I wanna be in the future... Lyrics are to me what Victorian poetry/literature was to repressed women in the 1800s - FREEDOM!

I am not sure how I feel about it so far though - although I have to say, I kinda like Zooey Deschanel ever since I saw her in THHG. I also kinda like Alan Cumming [Grey Matters (GREAT MOVIE), Romy and Michele's High School Reunion]. I'm just not sure about Richard Dreyfuss as the "Mystic Man"... We'll see, though.

Sydney Danielle: While I was pregnant we were searching for names. We were huge Party of Five fans at the time and were so excited when Neve Campbell was in Scream. Her character's name was Sidney Prescott and we kind of both looked at each other and were like, hmmm Sydney is a good name... He had wanted to name her Danielle because Daniel Boone is his relative, but I knew she'd be made fun of, so we agreed to make it her middle name. Originally we were gonna call her "Danni" but it just ended up being Sydney.

Allyson Elizabeth: While I was growing up I always wanted a daughter named Jacquelynn Elizabeth, but Charles didn't like the name Jacquelynn. The day I was scheduled to go into the hospital to be induced we were watching Everybody Loves Raymond and a lightbulb went off when they were talking about their daughter, Ally. Later that night we were sitting in TGIFridays talking about names and such as we were down to the wire and agreed that Allyson was a good name, and it fit well with Elizabeth.

Trey: well, Trey's name was much easier to decide on. We had agreed way back when I was pregnant with Syd that if she had been a boy, her name was going to be Charles William III. So by the time we HAD a boy the name wasn't really an issue. BUT, what to call him WAS an issue. The baby would be the 4th living Charles in our family (my husband is a Jr, and my dad is a Charles III). So the usual nicknames were already taken... When I was in high school I was really good friends with a guy named Trey and he was a "third" and his parents called him "Trey" for "three". I loved that idea, so we decided we'd confuse everyone and name the baby Charles William but call him Trey! :-) Can't wait for school to have to explain that one all the time hahahaha...

More Movies... And a Quiz

Last night we watched a couple of movies:

The Dead Girl: Well, first I must admit that I love both Giovanni Ribisi and Brittany Murphy, and I did enjoy this movie, but it was a little - um, weird lol. First of all the movie was so DARK - both in content and just hard to see. The director really played with the lighting effects and it worked great, just was almost impossible to see in parts. Anyway - I liked this movie, but its not for everyone - many people would be bored.

Music and Lyrics: cute, cute, cute. But really, would you expect anything less than cuteness from a movie with Hugh Grant and Drew Barrymore? LOL I think not! ^^

We still have Into the Blue to watch, but I'm not holding my breath for this one. It looks really corny to me...

I took the movies back to Blockbuster and realized that there were a few more in the giant stack that I'd forgotten to post about.

The Painted Veil: Very very good! As you may remember from an earlier "EyeCandy Friday" post, I am a huge fan of Edward Norton. This movie was GREAT. I highly recommend it!

Because I Said So: Also great! I love Diane Deaton, and even though sometimes they can be over the top in cheesiness, movies that Mandy Moore is in are usually good. This one was really cute and heartfelt.

Arthur and the Invisibles: Cute, but didn't really hold my attention. LOL I "watched" this twice in one day and by the end of the second time I was really "over it"... but the kids loved it - even Trey!

New Song Obsession

Ok, I am not ashamed (well, maybe a little) to admit that I enjoy Justin Timberlake's music. I am really hooked on his new single, What Goes Around...Comes Around. I really like everything about this song lol. Actually, his entire new album rocks, and let me tell you, I'm not a "Justin Timberlake" type-a-gal! (Whatever that is...) Also, Scarlett Johansson is in the video and she is pretty frikkin' cool, imho.

*sigh* CSI: Miami...

Ok, so I am a huge CSI fan. I love all things CSI: Las Vegas, Miami, New York, I watch them all... But!! Why did the writers decide to give a "nod" to Britney Spears and her stint in rehab and her shaving her head?? It did nothing for the plot of the show and seemed like a serious afterthought. Here is a blurb I found about at TV Squad:

Most unexpected scene? That random nod to Britney Spears at the end of the episode. I'm not sure what the message was supposed to be, but an obvious Britney clone was checked into the rehab center, went to her room, snorted some coke, and shaved her head.

I think everyone needs to just stop obsessing about Britney, personally. lol I mean who CARES if she shaved her head?? Maybe her head was just itchy, like Pedro. :-)

Movies

Let's see, mostly the TV is only showing 24 lately...

Happy Feet: wasn't nearly as good as I had expected it to be. Sydney had seen it twice, and my MIL had seen it like 3x or more, so I thought it would be much cuter than it was...

The Wicker Man (1973): Hmmm... idk what to say about this lol... I wasn't really impressed with this any more than I was the Nicolas Cage remake. It was supposed to be so much better. Meh, oh well.

Bobby: Surprisingly good! Definitely a conversation starter.

Blood Diamond: At first I wasn't really into this movie and Leo's accent was really irritating, but as it went on, I got sucked in. It wasn't the best movie ever, but worth renting.

Pursuit of Happyness: I have a love/hate relationship with this movie lol. I loved it because it was a "feel good" movie and it was based on a real dude, which is always nice... BUT it was really hard to look past the fact that Wil Smith was the actor playing this destitute single dad... I mean, every time he went into that shelter and thought about being poor, I couldn't help but think about how in real life he had NO CLUE about that life. But, putting all that aside, it was a good movie. :-)

Marie Antoinette: Loved it. I love anything with Kirsten Dunst. The costumes and cinematography were really nice in this movie, too.

Van Wilder 2: The Rise of Taj: Very funny, indeed. Maybe not QUITE as funny as the first Van Wilder, but quite funny.

The Quiet: Different.

And over Sydney's spring break Charles and I were able to go to the movies TWICE!!! We watched 300 which was awesome, way better than I had expected. We also saw Premontion which I really liked. I had read some reviews about how horrible it was, so I wasn't expecting much. You really have to pay attention to not get lost, though.

I know we've watched more, but I just can't remember right now. After House is over I'll watch some trailers and see what is coming out that you all need to know about hahahah!

LOL Attention Wrestling Fans!

Ok, now first of all, I hate wrestling. I've never really watching any because I think its just stupid. HOWEVER, I recently learned that a friend of mine has a husband who not only likes to make fun of wrestling, but has WRITTEN A BOOK. Go Veg?!?!

Charles and I have talked on and off since we got married about giving up meat. We've never followed through, but we have discussed it many times. We have made some baby steps over the years, and tried to buy products that are ecologically sound, like not eating veal, and buying recycled paper, and most recently giving up paper towels and napkins, and buying Seventh Generation baby wipes.

(BTW, GoVeg.com is a good place to start looking at vegetarianism.)

Anyway, Charles has expressed desire to give meat the ol' heave ho again, so we are going to attempt to phase it out. There are some things that we know we like already, like some Morningstar Farms products, and nearly anything by Boca is delicious! We like fried Lightlife: Organic Three-Grain Tempeh. I really like Natures Burgers, but he isn't a huge fan. The one problem is Charles hates tofu, so that does pose some vegetarian dietary dilemmas.

So anyway, I will probably be posting about things we try, etc. We'll see how long we can last this time. Hopefully we will do better with this attempt! :-)

I will really miss the medium-rare Outback steak that I get like 3x/year! HAHA!!

Lovin' Indy Freecycle!

I have recently discovered the joys of Freecycle.org. I have only been fortunate enough to grab two things quick enough, but I've gotten Sydney a big box of books (Judy Blume, and some great children's classics), and today I picked up curtains for the kids' rooms (Monster's Inc. and Spiderman). The woman even threw in some Halloween hand towels and a pillowcase. I have some things around here I think I'm going to Freecycle, too. I usually take most things to Thrifty Threads where women who live in a local women's shelter shop free-of-charge. Two years ago when I cleaned out my house, we took at least five trunk loads full of stuff, including like 10 trash bags full of clothes. I'm looking forward to seeing what all we can donate this time, too. We are really trying to scale down our lives, if you can't tell.

So anyway, when I was picking up the curtains, I stopped at Georgetown Market a local natural foods store and picked up some bulk spices and some yeast. Man, I tell you, the grocery stores making a killing of a profit on yeast!!! You buy those crappy convenient three-packs for like $2, right?? I bought a half-pound bag of bulk yeast (which is undoubtedly fresher...) for $2. I haven't been able to find bulk yeast for a long time since Nature's Cupboard stopped carrying it. That's part of the reason I haven't been making bread. Well, ok, its a VERY small part of why lol... Anyway, now I can make some delicious homemade bread again on Saturday and take some to my aunt's house for supper - mmmmm mmmm good!

Ok, I've done the FlyLady thing many times before, but never gotten through it all because well, I'm lazy lol. But, I seriously need to work through it this time and not live like this anymore.

This is another attempt at Fingerless Gloves. I read on Craftster.org that someone made some out of Peaches and Cream cotton, so I'm seeing how that goes, since I'm still unsure what to make of the Cash Vero I have on hand.

UPDATE: I finished one glove, I really like it, but there are some changes I want to make. I'm glad I used scrap yarn, but it only took a tiny amount. I'm going to make it less wide and I am thinking of putting a button at the wrist, because I want them tighter than ribbing. I'll post a pic of the completed one tomorrow.

These are pictures of the Skull Illusion Scarf. Looking straight at it, you basically see only stripes, but looking at it perpendicular, you see the skull and crossbones. I will either continue making this as an entire scarf, or make a little bag for Sydney, I haven't decided yet.

One last thing, someone showed me a great color scheme generator and I lost the link. Well, I looked it up today, and thought I'd share with ya'll. Its really a nifty little tool. I'm gonna use it to make some Fair Isle patterns or striped hats or something... lol
