Genealogy Link

Most people won't care about this, but to the family members who read my blog, I've started a Genealogy Page. I don't know how much I will put out there, I just wanted a place online I could keep track of things. A Blog isn't the best format, but its the easiest to update lol...

Cool! You do genealogy too? Besides knitting, genealogy is another of my addictive hobbies. Have you been working on it for a while?

Yes! I've actually always been interested in my family's history. When I was little, my great-grandma was still alive. She lived to be 100yrs 10days and had so many great stories to tell... The daughter she lived with (my Great Aunt, Jessie) was always interested in genealogy, too and had kept hand written records for years. She and I used to love to discuss family history (among many other things.) My Aunt Jessie died last year, and I've tried to keep working with where she'd left off, but it's really hard. I work on all lines on both sides of my family and sometimes my husband's family, too - because his mom is really into it, too. It's fun, and there is always something you find that you never knew, if you just stick with it! LOL

I go in phases with it, though, I work on it for months on end, then quit for a few years to see if anything new has popped up. :-)

Oh, I'm glad to hear that you recorded your great-grandma's stories, while you had the chance. I wish I'd had that opportunity! The stories make everything come alive. It's more than just names and dates.

Have you delved into the realm of gedcoms and genealogy programs? I've used a great shareware program for free www.brotherskeeper.com, but there are some other wonderful programs out there, to keep your data straight (make charts etc.)

Have you lost yourself in the abyss of online message boards? Have you spent your yarn money on Ancestry.com, or lost days searching through Heritage Quest?

Yeah, definitely "funner than cleaning"!

My Toto is a wealth of information that oozes out all over the globe! She had such an interesting mom that kept her little mind busy, had to since she was the "only child" you know". Love you Toto
